Feminism Starts with Me

I have a confession to make.

I, FashionableNerd, am a piss-poor feminist.

Outside of the normal scope of blatant sexism, I’m completely lost. Often, in my readings of different feminism blogs or feminist books, I see different interpretations of say, commercials or television shows and I think “Wow, all of THAT was in there?”

Further, when I’m reading blogs in general, and the discussion erupts into a bevy of feminist ideas, and I notice that people are getting offended, sometimes I have a rough time understanding why.

This pisses me off. At 23, I feel I ought not have to ask why folks are offended.

And so I begin a brand new blog. One that keeps me surrounded by far greater feminists than I so that, even in my floundering moments, I can continue to learn about feminism and it’s scope, and how to recognize not only when I should be offended, but to actually understand why, and then be able to do something about it.

I’m hoping that, through not only research, but living vicariously through my co-bloggers, I can take off the “piss-poor” qualifier and just identify myself as a feminist.

Feminism starts with me, at home, and I’m doing my damnedest to make sure I do it properly.
